RESEARCH
- Anne Todgham, currently conducting research at McMurdo Station, Antarctica, spoke with Dr. Juliet Gerrard (chief science advisor to the Prime Minister of New Zealand) and Minister James Shaw (leader of the Green Party) about her research on the impacts of climate change on Antarctic fishes.
- Huaijun Zhou, Perot Saelao and Ying Wang published “Association of Candidate Genes with Response to Heat and Newcastle Disease Virus” in Genes’ Special Issue on Genomics of Avian Viral Infections.
- Pablo Ross and Marcela Vilarino published “CRISPR editing validation, immunostaining and DNA sequencing of individual fixed bovine embryos” in BioTechniques.
OUTREACH & TRAVEL
- Alison Van Eenennaam and Jim Murray traveled to Washington D.C. to meet with the Secretary of Agricul-ture, Sonny Perdue, to discuss regulation of gene editing in animals.
- Richard Blatchford, team coaches Allison Pullin and Kaleiah Schiller, and Center for Animal Welfare members competed at the AVMA Animal Welfare Assessment Contest in Fort Collins, CO. Alycia Drwenke won 2nd place overall individual and Karli Chudeau won 5th overall individual graduate student. The graduate team (Sarah Adcock, Alycia Drwencke, Maggie Creamer, Karli Chudeau and Rachael Coon) took 3rd place in the overall team category and the undergraduate team (Melissa Thurston, Sabrina Mederos, Liz Sanchez, Tanya Douglas and Lucy X) placed 4th overall in the undergraduate team division.
- Deanne Meyer, Ermias Kebreab and Frank Mitloehner were speakers at the California Dairy Sustainability Summit in Sacramento. Chris Miller (Meyer), Breanna Roque (Kebreab) and Carlyn Peterson (Mitloehner) presented posters.
